Marcia D. Smith, Ed.D, LPC grew up in Memphis, Tn. As a theatre baby, she always surrounded herself with music, acting, and creative writing. At an early age, she was inspired to be a multiplatinum singer and songwriter at 16. Marcia always performed and practice at home, in church, and random garage sales. Marcia practiced her craft by taking creative writing classes, competing in talent shows, singing in choirs, and developing stories saved on a floppy disk.
Marcia continued performing while attending University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. During her educational journey, she discovered that she suffered from anxiety, low self esteem, and depression. She learned how to find her inner peace while studying to become a therapist, utilizing techniques from her Positive Psychology class (perspective changing, journaling, and developing personal definition of self-image). During her graduating year, she became critically ill with an autoimmune disease, Multiple Sclerosis. Utilizing her tenacious will and heart, she graduated while in the hospital as her disease progressed. A year passed and she decided that she was going to live her life to the fullness with no regrets. As planned, she graduated with a Masters in School Guidance & Counseling and Doctorate in Counseling Psychology. Joined the illustrious sorority of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Marcia married her college best friend, Jaspierre Smith, and had two sons, Jaspierre Jr & Jayceon Smith.
November 25, 2017, Marcia went through the greatest transition of her life, the loss of her grandmother. She went through a major depression struggling with her grief. She found her strength by returning to performing arts, where she returned to singing, performing, and writing. Returning to performing arts, she wanted to make it a career while continuing to help save lives in the mental health field. Marcia, who goes by the name Demarje Adair, can be found on the stages of Houston, TX, movies & television, and bookstores. She wrote a children’s book, You Will Smile Again, I Promise, on the stages of grief and has many more books to come.
After 9 years of being a Professional School Counselor and Clinical Therapist in mental health agencies, Marcia opened her private practice called The Release Center, where she helps people to release, relax, and renew. She utilizes counseling techniques; as well as, some performing arts practices to restore the hope and joy in her clients. When Marcia enters the room, she comes with high energy and optimism.
Marcia uses her life as an example that no matter what happens in life, there is always hope. Her purpose in life is to help as many people, in all age ranges, to find joy in the pain.
